Do they play weddings? - February 8, 2007
Yes, and Dave has announced from stage that they will also play parties, bar mitzvahs (not much call for bluegrass music here) wakes and hangings (although they will avert their eyes).
Can we believe everything that is said on stage? - February 8, 2007
Yes, in an parallel universe. Welcome to the altered reality of David Dahl's mind.
How did the band get the name? - February 8, 2007
The most common question posed to Mollybloom is, "Where did the name come from?"
The top five explanations are:
*Molly Bloom was a complicated and misunderstood character created by the writer James Joyce. However, few people are aware of the existence of this particular Molly and those who are, are quick to point out her moral short comings.
*They were once Molly's back up band. Since Molly is currently incarcerated, they have been playing on their own, without her. With good behavior, she should be rejoining the band in another 5 to 10 years.
*Molly isn't really in jail, she just changed her name and is currently an infamous blonde pop star. Here again, they expect her to rejoin the band in another 5 to 10 years, as soon as she gets tired of excessive fame, commercial music and way too much money.
*Mollybloom was a racehorse the band purchased. Unfortunately, it met with a tragic accident on the first turn and is now stuffed and a featured yard decoration at an unnamed band member's home.
The least interesting story is that many years ago, an unnamed fledgling bluegrass band needed to come up with a name for their first gig. The banjo player at the time used the name of one of his favorite Alan Munde tunes: Molly Bloom. He liked the symmetry of the name. By the time the band realized the name might be problematic they already had a following. The band never did learn the song...so this explanation just couldn't be true.
