Crooked Road

(Mollybloom)
written by David Dahl, sung by Clark Blanchard
I traveled down a crooked road to see what I could see
At the end I saw the Devil, looking back at me.
In fear I tried to run away but fell onto the ground.
He said, “Son you’ve had your chance, now you’re going down.”
“Devil can we make a deal, I promise I won’t tell?”
He just smiled and shook his head and said “Not a chance in Hell.”
“Cause you’re already gone.”

I thought of all the deeds I’d done with feelings of despair.
From way down deep inside my soul, came a mournful prayer.
Devil almost looked surprised as he heard me start to pray.
Said, “Son you should have reconciled long before this day.
For years you’ve been right by my side, need I to explain?
You’ve traveled down this crooked road and now your prayer’s are in vain.
Yes, you’re already gone.”

I saw the fire, felt the pain, tried but could not scream
Woke up wondering had it been a vision or a dream.
What lies for me tomorrow, in time I cannot tell.
But the journey down a crooked road, no more will I dwell
And I’m already gone.
